Sipi Falls & Eastern Uganda: Waterfalls, Coffee & Mountain Air

On the slopes of Mount Elgon, three waterfalls tumble past coffee farms and cliff-top lodges. Sipi is Uganda's most beautiful place to slow down.

Three Falls on the Mountain's Edge

Sipi Falls is a series of three waterfalls on the foothills of Mount Elgon, the highest dropping 100 metres off a sheer cliff. The hike linking all three winds through banana gardens, coffee plots, and villages, with the plains of Karamoja stretching endlessly below.

Arabica Coffee from Farm to Cup

The Sipi region grows some of Africa's finest arabica. On a coffee tour with a local farming family you pick ripe cherries, hand-pulp and roast them over a fire, then drink the freshest cup of your life while looking over the falls.

Abseiling, Climbing & Mount Elgon Treks

Adrenaline options include abseiling 100 metres alongside the main falls and sport climbing on the basalt cliffs. Serious hikers use Sipi as the gateway to Mount Elgon National Park, whose massive caldera can be trekked in four days without the crowds of Kilimanjaro.

When to Go

Sipi is beautiful year-round, but the falls are fullest just after the rains (May–June and October–November) while trails are driest December to February. Two nights is ideal, often combined with Jinja on an eastern circuit.
